This is Lu, formally known as Lucy. I've seen lots of talk about different types of Redfoots, what can you guys tell me about Lu?

He looks real good. In the next couple of years you'll see him change. His waist will narrow aka "peanut" and his plastron will get concave. Mine was full mature at 13.5 inch shell and 15.5 lbs.

Yours is Venezuelan? How did you learn that and how do I figure out Lu's 'heritage'? Thank you for the compliments, I've only had him since April. He was given (GIVEN) to me by his 2nd owners who couldn't care for him any more. I'm repurposing a dresser for my TTBT when that's done Lu is getting a whole new build!

Also, he has already started banding and is slightly concave. He's a riot with such a huge personality! I've spent hours researching Red Foot care, I've always had sliders and boxies, but I can't figure out the sub species (?).

That type are generally referred to as "Northerns".
I have several and they get a bit faded as they mature.
But they are rewarding and fascinating pets.

Agree with the others: Northern boy this is my Northern- Shellie, 26 months old, almost 4lbs and 9" carapace her extra/split scutes are likely telling of her female gender. And this is my Brazilian- Tucker same age as Shellie, little over 3 lbs and 1/10th short of 8" carapace. He was supposedly incubated to be a boy. I hope he turns out to be a female, so that we have PEACE in the Tortoise Garden i still bathe them together but in recent couple days started feeding them separately where they can't see each other. Little rascals started bulldozing each others food pile and sitting on it. I know what that means: no more nice breakfasts and suppers together
