How old are your sullys? I just adopted mine in december and found this forum in my studies. I consider her more of a rescue than an adoption or "buy" because of where they had her in this fish store, a 500 gallon aquarium with 4 other little tortoises of different breeds. She was the largest and just hid in the corner. Come to find out she was one of the employees originally and i feel all the ino he gave me was a lie. She is supposedly 7yrs old but only weighs around 25lbs. She has pyramiding and lived in a 2' x 2' box for how ever many years she has actually been alive. is there anyway to figure out her age? She was a mess and im still learning but i know she is still much better off.

Bomber. Told he was 11 a year and half ago when we took over his care. He is 24" x 18" straight measurements. "Waistline" is 47" and as best I could weigh him without handles, a little over 80 pounds. He has 5 1/2" ground clearance and by looking at his cactus, Bomber's mouth can reach about 16" above ground. If you can view the video, he's taking a shortcut through our backyard cottage's living room on the way to his night area after some grazing.

To be honest The pyramiding is not that bad at all. Keep the humidity up and it will get better with size. I just got my Gatsby in May and he is really bad pyramiding. I got him from an online breeder so I do not have any idea what his life was like before me. Like you I know he is way better off now.

As far as age there is really no way to know. If your tort didn’t get proper nutrition it IS possible to be 7 years old. Then again they may not have any idea. The best way (and I am sure you already know this) is go with weight. Weigh each month and see good progress and that’s the best way to judge how things are going.

Here are our two. Sweetheart came to us at five years old very pyramided. He is just like his name, super sweet. He is 13 now. We were told all the wrong ways to raise him. Our vet straightened us out. Now he is doing great. We recently got Tibby a month and a half ago. She has been gaining about 100g a month. I hope that is correct. I try to put her outside daily. She grazes well and gains more when outside. She is about 20 months old and came to us only eating Romaine. That has been a struggle. Her inside enclosure is 3x8. We are building a 4x8 night box for both of them to share with a dividing wall. The separate areas have been fenced. I used kennel seal on the house today. Painting this week, I hope, and I can’t wait to move Sweetheart to his new larger area. Tibby will get to roam her new fenced in area soon too.
