60F and sunny today, so got my 3 redfoot juveniles outside for half an hour. They are approx 6", 5.5" and 5" SCL.
When is a juvenile no longer classed as a juvenile?
Feel free to add your photos of juveniles (any species).

Those are great photos!

I would think they're juveniles until they're sexually mature.

I'd call them young adults or sub adults at 6".
Is there an accepted size?
I don't know, but I see breeders online offering "adults" for sale at 6".

Someone once told me that SCL is not everything, they grow in other dimensions, limbs, head, tail. I believe this is true. I have what I would consider an adult male at nearly 8" SCL. One of these in this thread is actually approaching 6.5" SCL. Buuuut. If you put them both side by side there is a major difference in other dimensions to say there is only about 1.5" difference in SCL.
So I'm thinking just SCL size doesn't give a true reflection.
I suppose it's hard to draw a line between juvenile, sub adult and adult.
Reason I asked this question was, On a couple of occasions in the last month I put my juveniles next to my adults to see what happened whilst feeding the adults. My 5" just froze and retracted in to the shell. My 5.5" ran away as fast as sh/e could, my 6" just started to eat with the adults as though the adults weren't there. Could be there characters, could be the boarder line they come out of the shell(no pun intended). BTW, I didn't leave them unattended when I tried this experiment.

Very cute! Were they playing "follow the leader"? Nice hammock too!

I'm in the Russian tort club here... What is SCL?

Thanks. They were playing follow my leader at first then they got brave and went off in all directions.

SCL=Straight carapace length. Measure your torts carapace without curving the tape measure to the shape of the carapace.
