Is this a Russian tortoise?

I found this little guy ( or girl) walking down a busy road. After a week with no luck finding his owner, we have decided to keep him. I was wondering if he is a Russian tortoise and the temperature required to stay outside. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Is there anyway to get a rough estimate of age?

rough estimate? 10 to 20 years perhaps if it's a male maybe younger if female

it could be older male erections only reach 5-5 inches maximum once once they get that big they stop growing but they continue to age. Is yours male or female?

Looking at another post here I believe that it's a boy. He has a longer tail that is long and somewhat thin.

I will check the vent tomorrow. He almost always carries his tail tucked up under his shell. Do you ever clean their shell?
