For red foots people use sphagnum moss. I have some sphagnum peat moss i used for my ornate box turtle and sulcatas. Is it okay? Maybe i could mix it with some top soil?
Peat moss is to sphagnum moss like a fern is to a fossil fern. Peat most is decomposed, compressed over the years, sphagnum moss. I use a 50/50 mix by volume of peat moss to top soil for my tortoises. Nice to dig in, easy to to clean, holds moisture well, has an acid level which prohibits mold growth, and I've never had any issues with it if ingested.
