Boston Fern is safe to feed according to The Tortoise Table Plant Database

BUT any plant bought is most likely to have been grown using fertilisers and chemicals - both sprayed on the plant and watered into the compost - So we always recommend you repot and grow the plant on in organic compost for several months before letting your tort anywhere near it.

how did they come up with that number? and even after all that time how would you know if its safe.
This is just a number I go with after transplanting out of the stores soil. I'm not sure how you could check it out for clean.

By this I'm referring to the poisons and artificial things absorbed my the plant.
I repotted a boston fern last night I hope it survives. I guess i'll wait till next year for it to be safe to feed. I used cococoir and topsoil after completely rinsing the roots of most of the store soil.
