I've seen posts were the owners have epoxied ID tags onto their tortoises. The dog tag kind. Looks like a great idea for any tortoise that might escape. Are there any negatives to doing this on a fully grown tortoise? Other than the fact that the epoxy would be on them for ever? I can see that tagging a juvenile would be a bad idea because of shell growth?

No, just be sure to keep the epoxy off the growth spaces. It is not permanent, as it will pop off over time and as the shell grows.

If I had a bunch of torts living outdoors, I would probably do this in case something happened. I would glue the tag onto the top of the sucte, the part that grow much as the tort gets larger.
