How many flowers are too many for my russian tortoise?

I was wondering how many flowers I should be feeding my tortoise. Should I feed them to him every day? Every other day? Once a week? I've read that flowers are fairly high in sugar, so should be fed sparingly.

What kind of flowers are you talking about? There are some that can be toxic to your tortoise, and some that should be fed as a varied diet. This means not every day, but a few times a week has been okay for my sulcata. I feed a pinch of dandelion flowers and sometimes many hibiscus.

Dandelion, chicory, red clover and on occasion, California poppy.

I'd say you're safe with flowers mixed with other food items a few times a week. Just not as the whole meal.

I personally feel that the flowers you have listed here...can be offered without limits....each are a perfect food within itself (the Poppy is little less perfect :p and I am surprised that the tortoise is wanting to eat lots of the poppy anyways???) --the entire plant of the others listed are fantastic as well.....eat up...

Actually, the dandelion is a great food for us as well, you can cook up some wine or use the greens for salad...all good stuff...it is "my" observed belief that the tortoise LOVES LOVES LOVES the dandelion so much because they like to get their sippy on too....lol..

That's good to know, thanks. I was just worried that I was giving him a little too much. :)

You could also feed him pansies and petunias. :)
