I've had mine for about 3 months and according to petco it is 6-9 months old, but they knew nothing.... they sold me a glass aquarium and told me to fill it with rabit pellets! So I don't trust their judgement.... they also didn't know the gender.
Post some pics of the tail and we'll be able to let you know. What size is he? They say you can't be absolutely sure until they're at least 5" long, but I've had a few males who were "obvious" at a much smaller size.
Id say its a male but dont bank on my statement as I have a REALLY bad track record with sexin the torts lol. I got a 50/50 chance...you'd think my luck would be getting better lol.
No one can ( as T-P mentioned) tell you exact age but your tort is over 2..IMO . He looks to be an adult.
It's hard to tell from t hose pictures... if you could get a clear close up of that tail, that'd help! He sure is a round thing, though, isn't he?! LOL! And I agree with Tracy that he is an adult... if he's a male, that is... he will only grow a little bit more, maybe half an inch or so. If he's female then there's could be a lot of growing ahead.
Danny I was going to say Tank is a Tanket. But because her plastron was not concaved. Yeh, I got one right-sort of even if it was after the fact. But your right UMDRunner Most Petcos and Petsmarts have a really good record for giving wrong information. Hope Tank being a Tanket is not a disappointment for you.
Petsmart told us our 7 year old greek tort was a 6 month old russian
Go with the info here...it will serve you well
From what I've read they are really a solitary animal and a 'friend' can be very stressful...
In the wild males have an area all to themselves...hard to duplicate in captivity...
that said a lot of folks here have groups that are quite happy.
Through all of my Russian experiences, they really DO enjoy having a buddy (contrary to popular belief) and if she's a female, then it doesn't matter what gender you put with her, although generally they say 2 girls to one guy...if you get a male, make sure he's not much bigger than her because he'll likely be reading for some mating well before her, and that could stress her out...
