Hello
I got a greek tortoise, which has fallen into hibernation for about two weeks now .. i have moved him indoors and he woke up.. is it safe to put him back outside?should i feed him or water him first? If i keep his inside will that be ok ? temps around here are 8 to minus 1 during dec and jan... keeping him indoors without any heating will just make him wake up when we are at home and turn up the heat , and fall asleep when we turn the heat out .. is that ok ?

Box him up in shredded paper and place the box in a cool, dry place where it won't be disturbed. He should be kept below 50F and above 40F. Don't keep him inside unless you can keep him where it is below 50F degrees. Is there a back bedroom closet that stays a constant cool temperature?

You've got to either fully commit and hibernate him properly, or you've got to fully commit to keeping him up, awake and healthy. Can't do the in-between thing. It will likely kill him.

Here is a care sheet and a tip sheet to help get you on the right track. The care sheet was written for russian tortoises, but care is essentially the same:
