Hello and welcome from Kent in the UK

We love pictures :) We'll also be happy to check over your enclosure (s) and lighting if you post photos of those :)

Your little Horsfields (aka Russians) are a very territorial species. They don't get lonely and see other torts as rivals for food and space. If you're keeping them together then be aware that you will have to keep them separately on a permanent basis in the future.

I recommend you read the TFO care guides if you haven't already

They're written by species experts working hard to correct the outdated information widely available on the internet and from pet stores and, sadly, from some breeders and vets too.

Hi and thank you for the welcomes. I have them housed seperately as I read an article on here about the dangers. I have them in temporary setups for now as I'm waiting for the tables to arrive , should be any day now. They have the correct lighting etc. Just waiting on the tables and substrate which is coming with the tables . I'll put pics on as soon as it's done properly. I've been enjoying identifying all the weeds and plants in my garden lol I didn't realise I had so many different ones.

Di

Please read those links I gave you earlier. You have received outdated information regarding their care.

Rabbit pellets are not suitable substrate. They are far too dry. You need an earthy type substrate that you can mix with water so it is evenly damp to help raise humidity. It needs to be 3-4"/8-10 cm deep.

I suggest fine grade orchid bark or coco coir

Those pellets are not meant for torts. They just sell them to make money, unfortunately. Your tort is already pyramiding a bit, so its best to change substrate to something like coco coir or fine grade orchid bark to make sure its new growth is nice and smooth :)

Welcome Di, what beautiful Russians you have.

Unfortunately, the pellets do have to go. Pet stores and sellers don't always know what's safe for tortoises, I'm afraid.

I'm not sure where to find coco coir or orchid bark in the UK but imagine they have them at plant shops and nurseries. They will be much cheaper there than at a pet store.
