I live in southern california and planning & thinking of getting aldabra hatchlings.

Hello and Welcome. They grow pretty fast so be sure you have a large outside area to house them. Besides a large indoor area. They need to have room to roam to keep their muscles strong. Take a look through Aldabramans threads on what he offers his. They need to be soaked and humidity at least in their first couple years to grow nice and smooth.

Don't make the same mistake I made -- raise them in warm, humid conditions. I didn't do any extra humidity, just whatever was in the air, and both of mine are pretty bumpy.

Hello and welcome.

I would recommend against it. Our climate is too dry here, and they usually do not do well. They do much better in the South East, like Florida, Louisiana or South Texas where there is high humidity all the time.

There are other species that are better suited to our SoCal climate.
