Hello Fellow tort lovers , my name is Tatiana . Im a brand new tort owner. My tortoise name is Lio he's a very cute and small Red Foot. This is my first time having a tort , and Ive fell in love with him or her, still don't know how to tell , still learning. I got him January 2nd , I've tried a few enclosures and I just can't find the perfect fit , I read many things online but just don't know what works for him. I started off with a fish tank but I didn't like it because he tried to bomb his head on the glass and I felt that was cruel for him, then I tried a cement container but I needed something more sturdy , so I bought the zoomed tort enclosure , made out of wood. I've always had forest floor mulch , also I have a UV light and two bulbs , one basking light from zoomed at 100w and one ceramic heat lamp , I keep the uv on for half a day and the heat lamp stays on all day , also the basking bulb only stays on morning then off at night . I have 3 plant pot plates , two for water and one for food. I give him lettuce once a day . but I always bring him to the lettuce and water because he loves to hide under his hide away , I also put a calcium block , that he nipples on sometimes. the humidity is usually always 40 and the temp is always around 80-85 F . I also have a repti fogger that I just started using once a day for 30 minutes, I feel that the ,mulch gets very dry and not moist at it was before , I do keep the enclosure open because the lights . He's eyes have been a little watery and I'm worried he's sick but he breathes just fine and eats and drinks water , personally him trying to eat lettuce is the cutest thing to me . he also has gotten 3 wet dots that has appeared within the last two months , its hard not soft , he does get distressed when I try to touch it though, I'm worried about my baby and I would love any help or tips on how to make his environment better with food , enclosure temp exc.. please help!!

Hello, Tatiana, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you and Lio.
Is the name Lio taken from the Ancient Greek for smooth ? The smoothness will depend a lot on your humidity.
Have a look at http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/ for a start.
I think it's much to young to sex at this point, you'll probably have to wait a few years to be certain.
The zoo med enclosure is not good for keeping in humidity. Also it won't be long before you need an upgrade to a bigger size.
See http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/closed-chambers.32333/
and http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/the-end-of-pyramiding.15137/
He needs a much wider range of foods to keep him healthy. See http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/redfoots-diet.143936/
The enclosure needs to be kept moist and hot, but as he seems to have shell rot, which has been talked about on your other thread, you need to make sure it isn't too wet.
Humidity should be much higher, 70 to 80%.
For this you will need a closed chamber.
