Hey Y'all
So I just got my Russian tortoise and she came with Zilla brand land tortoise food, and I am wondering if this is a good brand of "kibble" or not. Also in my yard I have a lot of plantain weed growing as well as clover and I am wondering if these are good for her? I've read that they are safe but can they be fed frequently or in moderation?

As far as food pellets go, I like mazuri, but only in moderation. Plantain, clover & flowers, dandelions flower and leaves, hibiscus leaves and flowers, mulberry leaves, and grape leaves (the list goes on and on) can be fed anytime. Mine get picky sometimes so if you chop up the food and mix it they'll eat the food they might pass over.

Welcome!

Clover and plantain are great foods but even great foods should not be fed all the time. Broccoli is good for humans, but we wouldn't stay healthy if that's we ate!

Tom's list is an excellent place to start. You don't have to get all the different foods covered tomorrow, just mix things up as well as you can over time. :)

This is a site we often refer to when checking out what is safe to feed: http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/.

It's a bit conservative, in my opinion, but better safe than sorry when you are a new owner!
