I found an Eastern Box Turtle about a week ago and brought her home because her scutes were coming up and there was bone exposed. From what I have learned I think she has shell rot and I've been disinfecting her shell with Betadine and triple antibiotic ointment. I'm kind of out of my depth and could use some advice. I can supply pics if needed. :):tort:

You can't see the damage very well because of the betadine, but the exposed shell is green in several places. It's not soft though.

The pics are still kind of hard to see due to the reflection, too. It might be predator damage. If it isn't soft and doesn't have an odor, that is encouraging.
I wonder if you could give the shell a gentle scrubbing with a soft tooth brush and water. Let it dry well, then try to take pics again out side in a box, so there isn't a light shining on it?
(comment- I think it is good to use betadine once or twice, but then stop. prolonged use can actually interfere with healing).

Cleaner/non glare pics would help a lot.

I can't be sure because of the quality of the pictures, but I'm with Lynne. I don't think this is shell rot. It may just be OLD predator damage. If it were exposed bone or scutes missing, it would be white.

Is there a wildlife rescue that you can contact? They might have the resources and skills to care for and rehab it.

Most of the green on the bone has gone away since I've been putting triple antibiotic ointment on it. She flinches when I touch a certain part of her shell though.
