It seems like my tortoise is eating less since the summer has gotten so hot.
She estivates during the hottest part of the day and is up and about in the early mornings and evenings. But I notice much of the food that she had previously eaten quite happily gets left untouched.
She has several shady areas to retreat to, and lots of shrubs for shade. She always has a big terra-cotta saucer of water (which she walks through but does not drink from).

Has anyone else noticed if their torts eat less in the summer?o_O
(P.S. She is a Hermanns tortoise and I live in south Louisiana)

My Russian is eating noticeably less right now, both her own grazing and what I offer her.

She did her enormous eating thing in the spring and will keep eating less and less until she is ready to hibernate. Last year (my first year), I kept trying to tempt her with extra special foods. This year I'm still offering food but I'm less (kinda) worried about it than last year.

Her summer pattern is like clockwork. Late morning with a brief exercise period, lots of naps, early bedtime. We should be so lucky!
