Just bought a new container of Mazuri tortoise diet and looks like rabbit food now. What happened to the dog food looking nuggets?

You've probably gotten the new Mazuri LS. The formula has changed a bit and I think the LS stands for less salt. The consensus of opinion on here is that some of our tortoises don't like the new formula as well as they liked the old. The old is still being manufactured.

Now we need to specify whether we want the "LS" new version or the "regular" old version.

My tortoises won't eat the new version unless I mix it in with something else.

Really, do you need some tips on tansitioning a food item with your animals? LOL ahahahahahahahah

I don't think either Mazuri are optimal at all (on paper or in their gut), the ZooMed grassland takes even more work to transition tortoises to, and it's more expensive. Maybe something better yet will come along.

It's not something I feed to him on a daily basis. It's just an extra I give maybe a few times a month. He has half an acre to roam freely where he grazes on grasses and dandelions all day. Poison plant and chemical free enclosure.

"LS" apparently stands for "low starch."

Don't forget the "new" Mazuri :)

Thanks for the info, guys! Not something I initially considered, but definitely important for my tortoise's overall health. He receives Mazuri very occasionally now since it being summer, he has an entire garden to eat.
