So Darwin is now 9 months old and he is 4 inches from front to back. He has grown 1/4 inch all the way around in the last month. Is this good? Should he be growing faster? I need to get a scale to weigh him but I haven't done so yet. What do you guys think?

Four inches is a good size for 9 month old sulcata.

As long a he's eating, pooping, and appears healthy, I wouldn't worry too much about speed of growth. Sullys don't all grow at the same rate. Some sullys get big quick, others take their time.

So the thingamajig part of the shell right behind his head and neck appears to be really thin and sharp! I'm scared that he will cut his neck. Other torts thingamajigs looks thick and curled upwards. How old does he have to get before it thickens and starts to curve up? Or will it?

I think it will dull down in time from the rubbing of neck scales. His skin only looks and feels tender, it's tougher than you think! after all, he is covered in scales. ;)
