Please forgive me if this explained in one of the care threads, but I'm curious to know why you put carrot babyfood in the soak water? And does it has to be babyfood or is it enough to use boiled carrots that has been mushed?

When a turtle or tortoise isn't eating, soaking in carrot water helps get a bit of nutrients into his body. They absorb the nutrients through the thin skin around the cloaca and on the throat. It does absolutely nothing for a healthy tortoise. It is only used when the animal has swollen shut eyes and is not eating. I've never used boiled carrot water, so I can't say if that would work or not.

I think when you cook carrots and mush them you can used it the same way as baby food.

Thank you both for your answers! That makes a lot of sense. I would probably use plain carrots to avoid unnessessary additivs, but I'm sure some makers of babyfood might do that as well. I'm glad my little one isn't that far gone for me to need to use carrots in the soak.
