So my tortoise is a pretty clean guy shell wise, but his face is caked with food. How do I clean his little face, especially when he probably won't like it and will retract in the shell?

DON'T try a sandblaster. Or steel wool.

Hello and welcome from the UK.

What species do you have and whereabouts in the world are you?

The best way to remove any grubbiness from your tort is when you soak.

Soak your tort for a good 30 minutes in warm water and that will loosen anything that's stuck. Use a high sided bowl that he can't see through

Please post pictures - we love them. :)

Pictures of the enclosure and lights will help us to help you get things set up perfectly :)

in 30 + years of tortosing I've never had to clean a face. I would imagine it's best to clean his face while he's soaking.

Soaking in water does it for me - what do you feed your guy? I don't recognize that red stuff all over his face.
