Hi all I am also new to this site and trying to figure out what kind of turtle I have found for proper care. It was out in the woods away from water so I'm guessing a box turtle just need to figure out what to feed it. Also wondering how to tell if its a male or female. Any tips or suggestions are welcome thank you!

Welcome to the Forum!!

In my opinion, the first thing you need to do is try to find the box turtle's owner. I imagine they are pretty upset to learn that the turtle has escaped.

Box turtles eat a variety of fruits, vegetables and bugs/worms.

I just read your other post. It is against the law to take box turtles from the wild. Please take this turtle back to where you found it and let it go.

I'd like to also offer you a bit of advice on forum etiquette. When you are not responding to another poster's question, you should start your own, or a new thread. This way you do not hi-jack the other person's thread with your questions and answers.

Hello and Welcome. put it back where you found it. Wild should always be left in the wild. There are plenty of turtles or tortoises to purchase or adopt if you want one. Check your local Craig's list or local reptile rescue.

Sorry I'm new to the site and not quite sure how to work it yet! Not trying to overtake anyones blogs just trying to help this little guy out I am taking it to the vet because one of his legs seems to be injured otherwise I would have left it where he was! Just trying to make sure he or she is ok!

Sorry not to sure how to work this site yet. I would never take an innocent animal from the wild just because, it seems one of his legs is injured so was going to take him to the vet tomorrow to have it checked out! Sorry about posting on others asking about this turtle wasn't sure how to start my own thread yet and nothing was showing up when I first posted! Seems they all came now haha so I'm sorry! Just trying to help this little turtle out!

It might sound cruel, but leaving an injured turtle in the wild is the best thing. The more we intervene, the less likely the turtle will be ok when put back.

I operate a turtle and tortoise rescue. I have seen some horrific injuries that have healed and the turtle is fine. One water turtle came to me with a quarter sized hole in its carapace, or rather what would have been a hole had it not been healed. It was obvious that the hole went right inside the turtle, and yet, here he was, all healed and acting perfectly fine.

Even if your turtle's leg doesn't heal normally, turtles get along just fine on three legs.

I applaud you for trying to do what you thought was the right thing. Its good to know there are still people out there who care about wild animals.
