    Seeking a second opinion

Just picked up another 10 syringes of ceftazidime and a week's worth of allopurinol which is fair enough if uric acid is high. I must say I was really hoping I wouldn't have to keep injecting a tortoise although he handles the whole thing better than I do.

    Seeking a second opinion

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm quite comfortable now reaching out for a second opinion after the opinions above which echo your own. I'm waiting on a response from one of the vets on the UK list, we will see what comes of it.

    Seeking a second opinion

Certainly, I'm based in the UK, more specifically Scotland. Nowhere too exotic unfortunately. Or warm for that matter.

    Seeking a second opinion

Thanks again for weighing in, really appreciate the input. They are, or at least the vet in question is a specialist, so I do have some comfort in that. The vet I take my dog to had said they could get a look at him back in February, but they didn't have any specialists and in hindsight I'm...

Thank you mate. I probably should have been a bit more thorough in my original post, my bad. Appreciate the concern ?

    Seeking a second opinion

Thanks for your input. Again I would feel bad as it may seem like I didn't trust her opinion, but similarly I'd put the welfare of my animal over and above maybe hurting someone's feelings. In any event I'd need to obtain copies of the blood work, I'd imagine I'm within my rights to do so, I...

    Seeking a second opinion

Original vet visit was for wheezing/squeaking, and passing a clumpy urate. The medication was prescribed as he was presenting signs of sepsis (red spots on shell, particularly around humeral and femoral scutes). Blood work resulted in elevated infection markers (white blood cell?). The redness...

    Seeking a second opinion

I was wondering what people's thoughts are on seeking a second medical opinion from a vet, and whether it'd be considered bad form. My Hermann's was a little out of sorts at the beginning of February. Eating etc fine, just something didn't seem right and I suspected dehydration. Took him to...

UK owners - best potting soil?

Thanks for chipping in mate. We've got loads of large fields at the back of us with long walks that we take the dog down. I'm not ashamed to admit I took a freezer bag out with me last year on walks and swiped some dandelions and other bits. Hibiscus is definitely on the list, what did you pot...

UK owners - best potting soil?

Hi folks, Hope everyone is well. Now that the weather seems to be on the turn I'll finally get to use the greenhouse to start growing weeds etc for my Hermann's. Im just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for the best soil for planting in? I know it has to be free from any chemicals...

    Tori

I'm certainly no expert, but I would probably get to the vet at the earliest chance, doesn't looks fun. Regards to tipping herself over, Helmut did that when he was much younger after changing substrate to the coco brick, which was moister than he was used to, he used to scramble and climb the...

    Hungry Hermann's

Also weight gain over winter is slower, circa 10-14g, only the past few months it's been creeping up. When we picked him up 2yr 5months ago he was a tiny 24g.

    Hungry Hermann's

Hi all, Done my 2yr 11mth old Hermann's (Helmut) monthly weigh in on Saturday as we do, and he's packed on a whopping 52g! Usually owners would be happy about their pet putting on weight but this seems far too much. He's now weighing in at 478g, which in itself seems very high for his age...

    Additional lighting set up

Cheers for heads up mate I've been watching him the past couple hours and he's been burrowing down and hiding, no wonder. Lights off, will get some wood and mount the light to it. Thanks for pointers on the substrate, was planning on switching to coco coir anyway but will do it asap. Thanks...

    Additional lighting set up

Perfect, I've got timers handy so that'll be no problems. Temperatures are fine and consistent so won't need a CHE at the minute, defo good to know though. With regards to him burning himself on the strip, is this a concern or am I just over worrying about him? It's almost as if he's pushed his...

    Additional lighting set up

Hi folks, After a bit of feedback on my table and positioning of lighting. I've got a Trixie mini pro sun mixed d3 70w for basking and just fitted a 10% repti glo 15w along the side, as below in pics. How long should each be on for? thinking the strip for the majority of the day, between...

    Strange discharge when bathing

That's a good shout, he's got his first appt with the vet on Thursday to get him registered and get a general check up done, so could I take some poop with me to get checked? Never thought I'd be saying a sentence like that...

    Strange discharge when bathing

Hatched in September so 8 months old. Thanks for the reassurance, behaviourally he seems totally fine (as much as I can tell this early on) so didn't think there was anything wrong with him.
