    Mazuri? Seriously?? Gross

Funny enough, it wasn't the list of vitamins and supplements that I was worried about, it was more so the corn, wheat and soy! I won't be incorporating it as a part of my tort's varied diet as of right now, but I'm going to keep an open mind and won't hesitate to use it in the need does arise...

    sometimes i want to cry

I am all for ensuring a healthy tort! Thanks for the feedback and for providing confidence in feeding Mazuri as another go-to option of sustenance to create more of a variety and when in a pinch during the slower growing seasons.

    sometimes i want to cry

I have always thought of corn, soy and wheat as more of fillers for food. I know tortoises are very different from dogs and humans, but it just feels natural to me to avoid giving these things to my tort as well. I started a thread of my own about this and Tom kindly directed me to this thread...

    Mazuri? Seriously?? Gross

Ah thank you! I tried to do a search for "Mazuri" and couldn't find any threads where all you veterans posted to. Thank you, Tom!

    Mazuri? Seriously?? Gross

I just looked up the ingredients to this stuff. WHY??? Soybean? Corn? Wheat? These are things I avoid as a human and don't even feed to my dog- for great health reasons.... All filler. Why feed them to a tortoise???? Is it because of the other vitamins/minerals? I read somewhere on this forum...

    Soft Shell vs Young Shell

I'm reposting here after posting in General Discussion and getting no response back. Fergie is about 7 weeks old. UV/humidity/diet is all on point per pinned threads I've read on this forum (mostly by Tom). I've also read on this forum that young tortoises do have a bit more flex to them. The...

    Soft Shell or Young Shell?

Little dude or dudette is only 7 weeks old. UV/humidity/diet is all on point per pinned threads I've read on this forum (mostly by Tom). I've also read on this forum that young tortoises do have a bit more flex to them. The spacing in between the scutes is widening, which indicates growth to me...

    Just Another Diet Q&A Thread

Thanks for the responses. My question stems from seeing and reading about people (even on this forum) feeding a bit of fresh melon or other seasonal fruits and veggies as treats. In no way am I trying to incorporate these foods as a regular or even semi-regular staple in his/her diet.

    Just Another Diet Q&A Thread

When do you introduce fruits and vegetables (very sparingly, of course) to your baby sulcatas? I have read through the pinned threads on diets but couldn't seem to find an age range for the introduction of foods besides dark leafy greens/weeds/grass/hay/edible flowers.

First 2 weeks of tortoise-ing- Check!

We all survived the first two weeks haha! Great appetite and activity level. Looking good, IMO. I feel like he/she has grown in these two weeks- not significantly, but definitely noticeable to me... Or am I just imagining it hehe

    Varied Activity Level?

No Name (4 1/2 weeks) was super active yesterday! Really enjoyed the outdoor habitat, didn't sleep at all during the day. Too much fun marching around the perimeter. Today, super sleep. Did eat after morning soak and went right back to sleep. Was even kinda groggy and didn't seem ready to wake...

    Varied activity level?

We were super active yesterday, marching around and today- not so much. Pooped yesterday AM during soak and ate really well. Didn't poop this morning during soak and didn't eat breakfast, just went back to sleep. I feel like this is probably normal considering it's only 4 1/2 weeks old. I'm...

    What A Wonderful Life!

The first 24 hours with this little tortoise have been so wonderful and fulfilling! With so many thanks to all of you on this forum. Without this website, I would have been a hugely stressed and unable to enjoy this new addition. Thank you all so incredibly much for providing all of this...

    New Owner Show-and-Tell!

Thank you! I was observing the eating process and when finished, turned right around, looked at me and did that. I like to think it was my tortoise's way of saying 'delicious!'

    A Rather Odd Decor Q...

The ones pictured are solid. I've tried scratching/breaking it apart with my fingers as hard as I can and got nothing. This was after a wash, too. I have some other larger specimens of amethyst I'd like to throw in there too.

    A Rather Odd Decor Q...

Has anyone put quartz geodes or other semi-precious rocks/minerals in their habitat for decor? Size wise, I've attached photos below. They are fairly big and all natural of course. My tortoise is 4 1/2 weeks old and will be picked up tomorrow. Surprisingly, I couldn't find any succulents or aloe...

Thanks for the help, Mark. I'll be sure to double check the temps throughout the day and evening tonight with my temp gun as well, just to be sure. And I will message Tom!

Also, there have been many people on this forum who have posts dating back from 2014 in regards to this particular person that I will be locally picking up the tortoise from. All reviews have been nothing but positive! :)
