    Pancake prolapse :(

Te vet tech asked me all the right questions, and I repeated a lot of it to the vet. That it’s an indoor tortoise that gets regular D3 and Ca supplements. Looking back to yesterday I probably should have not been such a push over. So far my tortoise has been eating and basking as usual…. time...

    Pancake prolapse :(

🤔 yeah your right, I’ve had it for 7 years, I doubt it has parasites

    Pancake prolapse :(

I’m at the vet and they want to take an x-ray, then depending on the results-try to shove it back in, suture it for 5days, inject antibiotics and calcium, give an anti parasitic and go from there. After discussion with my vet I’m thinking this happened from trauma-poor guy got stuck sideways two...

    Pancake prolapse :(

I’m really sad, I woke this morning and found one of my pancake tortoises with a prolapse :( I have an emergency vet appointment in a few hours. In the mean time I’ve keep him/her in a warm sugar water soak. Doesn’t seem to be helping though. Does that look like intestines or bladder? I read...

    Egyptian dietary help

Maybe your tortoise is craving calcium?? I feed my Egyps mostly Mazuri tortoise food which can be purchased online. I first soak the pellets in water then mix in various different dried herbs, weeds with a calcium and or mineral supplement a couple times a week. You could try giving him some wet...

    Kleinmanni tortoise table

Currently I have my adult egyps on a mixture of sand and oyster shell . I also have a large wandering jew plant in the middle. They like to hide under and nibble on plants. They're not very picky critters it seems. They do like to slightly dig and nestle into the substrate when sleeping, so...

    Excitement!

Don't blame yourself about the temp, because the egg looks like it was rotten to begin with - My hatch rate at best is only 50% Ive had a couple of egy's hatch in my enclosure without a lot of heat Ive seen a lot of rotten eggs recently from my group :/ probably because I haven't been cooling...

    Age vs size

I thought I would share a picture that I took today comparing the differences in the size vs. age of Egyptian torts. The smallest tort in the pic is 5 days old. Then a 2 month, 8 month, 2 year, adult male >20yrs, last is an adult female >20 years :)

    Why my eggs are shrinking

I use a thermostat on my incubator for that very reason. Sometimes the heating element is way off from the desired temp and is not accurate. Are you incubating your Kleinmanni eggs together with the red ear slider eggs?

    Egg incubation

So far I've been successful hatching my eggs with a dry medium and high humidity. I have three babies :<3::) I'm relatively new to incubating eggs but I found most of my information from an article by the tortoise trust. http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/kleinmanni.html

    Help

I don't recommend trying to breed them if these are the same torts who have a worm problems as you mentioned in other post. Breeder torts must be in excellent health if you want to be successful.

    Is that intestinal worms ?

Agree, bring your torts to the vet as soon as possible. They may have other issues besides worms

    Reasons for laying broken eggs.

I had the same problem. My tortoises laid broken eggs too. but then I added a mineral supplement 1-2x weekly and calcium withOUT vit D3 5-6 days a week, plus calcium WITH vitamin D3 1-2x week.

    Breeding Egyptian tortoises

Thxs for sharing your pics! From my observations my tortoises generally like the substrate to be about 3/4-1/2 their plastron length plus the length of their legs. Depends how picky they are too. I have one that's more pickier than the other two. Your tortoise will let you know.... Just watch...

    Breeding Egyptian tortoises

For my substrate I use a mixture of mostly oyster shell mixed with some vita-sand a small amount of coco coir. I think the most important thing to have is a lot of light to stimulate breeding. I also turn off my heat bulbs at night so that they can cool off to about 70-72 degrees at night. I...
