My Sulcata tortoise died randomly. My wife had fed him yesterday afternoon and he ate and was walking around. I came home from work this morning and he was sitting just outside his log hide neck extended and legs sprawled out slightly. I've heard stories of tortoises going into a state of...
I watched a video about pyramiding on YouTube and the guy said you can use coconut oil to resist the drying caused by reptile heat bulbs. He suggested to rub a light coat of oil on the carapace and it will keep the carapace from drying out. I'm curious if anyone's done it before for their torts...
I found a good clean source of weeds near my house, but I don't know what to pick and feed my Sulcata hatchling and CDT? Anyone in the SoCal area know what's readily available and good to feed?
Just got this little guy a couple weeks ago from a local breeder. He's a great little tortoise. He some slight pyramiding going on but his new enclosure should bring on some smooth growth from now on. Here's some pics enjoy.
I have a homemade humidifier in my Sulcata hatchling closed chamber. Should I have the humidifier on all day like my lights? The humidity is at 70% with the humidifier on. It's not u healthy for me to have it on all day is it?
Grapes is a CDT I rescued she was in really bad shape when I got her.
She's beginning to grow a little smoother. She's been consistently putting on weight also. She seems generally happier and less timid since we got her. We fell in love with her right away. Just thought I'd post an update for...
Building a lid for a 40 gal breeder tank. It will be made of acrylic and have some holes put in for heating and humidity. Still not sure how I'm gonna do it just yet. But here's a crude drawing with my current idea.
Anyone know of a safe sealant to use around the ceramic element for the bulb...
I'd like to see the enclosure and how your hatchling turned out. I know Tom has had great success with the closed chamber method . Just trying to decide what is like to build. Thanks in advance guys.
Both boxies are from the same clutch only one seems to have really put on any substantial growth though.
Munch- which is my eastern box turtle hatchling has steadily put on weight since I got him. As of today Munch is 24 grams.
Cheese- which is my buddies eastern box is quite a bit smaller...
My CDT has been having stuck poop lately. Instead of her poop coming out in little sections it's been coming out in long single pieces. She hasn't been able to express them herself completely so I've had to help her. When they do finally come out they have long pieces of grass. Is it I something...
I have a juvenile CDT and a hatchling eastern box.
I have been weighing them for the last 3-4 months and was wondering if anyone knows what is a normal amount of weight for them to put on a month?
By best I mean easiest to take care of and doesn't require being an expert tort keeper. I have a friend who is interested in getting a tort and asked which is best to start out with.
Thanks guys!
I just recently stumbled upon Vita bugs while on a trip to petco, and was wondering if they are actually better for my eastern box?
I bought the wax worm meal worm combo pack. The package says to feed mealworms for high protein and wax worms for the higher fat. They also sell a product called...
