Due to my physical condition and my living situation, it is no longer possible for me to continue to care for this sulcata. He's almost 14 years old. I've had him for just about 12 of those 14 years. I didn't have him the first year of his life or about 8 to 10 months in his 2 1⁄2 to 3 1⁄2 year...
Thanks Bill, but I wasn't in the "military". My "outfit" was one of those with a three letter name. I did, however, coordinate the actions of US military operatives. When I see these Right-wing or left-wing militias posing in gear for photo ops I cringe. This is America!!! These are the very...
Tom, if you want to turn this forum into a place for political rants, I am ready for you. Bring it on!! I've been going at it For 4 years now, but only on forums for that type of conversation. Fox News has banned me more than a dozen times, and I have twarted their efforts each time. I have had...
Tom, You should have no trouble getting a bale or two of Teff. If you do, call me and I'll bring you some. My in-laws have horses. When their horse Vet recommended Teff for a couple of the older animals I grabbed a couple of flakes to feed to my sulcata. He went for it right away so, I have been...
I have fed Teff hay to my sulcata for about 3 years now. He also gets some bermuda and orchard hay. He definitely prefers the teff to orchard hay, but it's a toss up between bermuda and teff.
I love it when they raise up to browse and eat. This was taken a couple of years ago. He does get more peaches than I would like, but it's really only a dozen or so over about two weeks each year. Old tree, small fruit, and not so many these past years. He will sit under this tree and wait for...
I believe that picture 1 and 2 and number 7 are chicory. My sulcata loves them. Here in San Diego they grow all year long with very little effort. In picture number 4 there is clover, and maybe some medic. My sulcata eats more medic than clover. Although when he grazes the medic to the ground he...
Some markets may have some of these items, but I doubt any of them have all you need. For every season there are plants for your sulcata to eat. This time of year there are lots of weeds, leafy greens, annual grasses. Where I live, San Diego, has had plenty of rain so we got mallow, dandelion...
Hey Tom, it is actually frills plantain. I looked for the seed pack, but since I stopped growing it a couple of years ago it's not likely to reappear soon. San Diego is great. I'm ready for warm weather again and so is my sulcata.
In case you haven't located a source for plantain seeds, here is what I have used:

Sorry for all the questions. You understand that without background info it is difficult to offer sound advice. I can tell you from my experience, tortoises will drag their feces behind them, sometimes. I have a large sulcata that will do this very same thing. Eventually it all comes out. The...
