I guess I should have introduced myself a little better. I’ve been a member here for years. This is just my first Leopard. I found the forum years ago when I took in my first Russian. You all have helped me so much over the years. Started with a tiny tortoise table and now my heard has a...
I just picked up this girl(so I was told) last night from a neighbor. She said the tortoise is about 2 yrs old. The pyramiding is pretty bad (she was kept in a gerbil cage). I have her now in a closed chamber enclosure but do you think it’s going to help stop it from getting any worse? Also...
Morning, my hatchling 'Taco' is doing well in his/her brooder box and I'm still working on tweaking his next enclosure. I want to ask for suggestions on temps.
The basking side is running 93-96 and 60% humid
The humid hide is running 77-83 and 99% humid. Do I need another heat source on...
Guess who decided to make a visit! I'm so excited to introduce my first hatched Russian tortoise baby, Taco!
Any suggestions for a new hatching mom for the first few days of life? His/her forever home is set and waiting...
What's the longest your russian eggs have inqubated? I have one egg at 154 days and I just don't know what to think. Here's two images of the same egg taken about 3 weeks apart. Any suggestions?
Is MBD mainly caused by poor diet and care or is it something they are born with. From my understand this poor little guy may be up to 4yrs old and has lived on meal worms and strawberries only. Now that my sister has it hopefully she can give it the love and help it needs.
My sister just took in this little rescue and we were looking for an identification for this poor little dude. It looks like he's got MBD, what do you all think?
The best thing I can recommend to you is U-tube vermiculture composting. I was buying worms at Petco every other week for my box turtle. Then someone gave me about 200 worms and showed me how to set up a verimculture bin. Super easy! I haven't bought worms since October to feed her.
Two $5.00...
I think she was picked up and moved unless she climbed a 4 foot wall with out being seen, but judging but the dirt and things stuck to her, I'd say she's been here all week. We have 1/2 acre of heavily planted yard, its a tortoise paradise when they get loose.
GOT HER! GOT HER! She is was at the opposite end of the yard (so she had been picked up and placed on the other side of a wall, but still in my yard). I am so happy. She looks like she's had a few fun days roaming and smells of lavender :). Yay.
The workers finally just showed up. I asked the one guy who speaks fairly good english about it, his response was "they hide". I told him she is very sick and will die if I can't find her and offered his guys $50 for the first one to find her.
Nope, just came back in from looking again. Still no signs, and yet again...no fence guys as of yet. I am going offer a reward to the first one that finds her. I just want her back.
I am keeping an eye on craigslist in case she pops up there. I also put up a missing alert to my neighbors on nextdoor.com. Not sure I can file a police report with no proof. Ugh, frustrating.
Normally I would agree with you Tom and if it was any of the other Russians I would say yes, they are there somewhere. However Lola is so people oriented and set in her routine that my mothers instinct is saying she's not here.
None of the workers showed up today (2nd day in a row... terrible...
So I am besides myself right now trying to figure out how to handle this. My Lola is missing and I am 99.8% sure she was stollen but I can't prove it.
Last week we had our fence replaced and had workers here all week. Each day I take my Russians out side to hang out and bring them in at...
