    serious chow time

I have to figure out how to post a pic of Leopold... I'll ask hubby :/ He was a year old when I got him, and he was slightly pyramiding at that time. His new growth has ALL grown out smooth between the tiny pyramids, as I have been soaking him one hour every morning and afternoon. I...

    serious chow time

Leopold is serious about eating. He attacks his food with urgency, stuffing large mouthfuls down his little gullet while eyeing the next bite. Leopold is a year and a half old, and I feed him four times a day, each time a large handful of greens (dandilions, raddiccio, escarole, chards...

Thoughts on getting a second tortoise

My Leopard and Hermann's tortoise hang out together. They graze together, and I'll find them nested down together in the tort yard. You can't say that torts don't appreciate company... I'm sure more than one person has brought up the well known story of Owen and Mmzee?

    Runny nose

Leopold my yearling leopard tort developed a runny nose a few weeks back. His nose dried up after putting him outside in the dry California heat all day for a few days. (Shade and lots of water provided). Our humidity is low, and dry heat is what helps the best for runny noses.

    Tortoise Legs

When reptiles stop using their legs or have sluggish leg movements, most often the cause is poor calicum absorption. Stop feeding him "wet" treats like bananas, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and put more leafy greens in his dish <avoid kale and spinich>. Increase his protein to twice a week <my...
