    Help! Hibernation Issues?

In the fall, we bring him inside and continue to feed him regularly. Usually after a few weeks, he moves away from the light, stops eating and drinking and just stays in one of the hide sections. We use a uva/uvb light when he's inside. Once he stops moving, we turn it off so it's around 68 in...

    Help! Hibernation Issues?

Hello all! It's been several years since I posted here, but I so appreciate this resource. We have a Greek Tortoise who is approximately 10 years old (I think). We live in Kentucky, so we bring him to an indoor enclosure in the winter. Last winter and this past winter, he has ended up...

    New outdoor enclosure!

Thanks! We are pretty pleased with it! As of right now it's about 15 inches high. He may be able to get over it in the future, but no chance right now. We also made sure that there are no ledges for him to get a foot up on. As of right now if he stands up, he is about as tall as one of the...

Hey all! It's been a while since I posted regularly, but my husband and I decided it was time to expand Thor's enclosure! He was able to escape out of our previous enclosure, but this one seems good so far! Still working on getting plants put in. Heading to an organic nursery this weekend to...

    Wild turtle laid eggs/ID?

Thanks! They live near a lake, so water is already close and accessible! She's got something on top of it already, I will tell her to add some weight to it! Hopefully we will have baby turtles soon!

We were also wondering if anyone could ID the type of turtle? We are in central Kentucky. She contemplated digging the...

    Diatomaceous earth

That's awesome! Our house is the same way and much as I hate bug poison, I've been using it but it doesn't work! So I'll be using it in the tort enclosure as well, which makes me extra happy!

    Yearling tortoise behavior??

Ok! The lights are already on that long (I will double check though). And we will start taking him out when we walk by. He chowed down on some Mazuri and grassland pellets today when he woke up. Just wanted to make sure he doesn't go into hibernation!

    Yearling tortoise behavior??

Hi all! Been a while since I posted about Thor. He's been hanging out, gaining weight slowly but consistently and just being his wonderful self. However, lately he has been burrowing extremely deeply into his substrate and not being extremely active. The temps inside his habitat are 85ish for...

My little greek doesnt seem to be growing!

When I got my hatchling Greek tortoise, he also seemed to grow really slowly at first. Then about 8 months after having him, he put on a growth spurt. Are you keeping track of his weight? In terms of diet, you could get dandelion greens occasionally, my tort loves endive, or check out the...
