I'm getting this lil guy Tuesday, can you tell sex from this pic? The lady giving it to me says it's a male that she had for 10 years, I didn't ask if she got it from a breeder or store I just assume a store. Anyway she says it's a male but it looks big
What if anything special do you do with your new hatchling tortoises? I mean besides feed, soak, and general care? At what age do you sell them? Do you feed any specific medication or anything? I'm looking for info specific to Russian tortoises. Friends of mine breed dogs so I know they get...

I plan on burmating my Russian tortoise in my basement fridge this winter, I plan on doing a decent size cooler enough he can move around in and it's deep, what is a good substrate? Cocoa coir ? I'm getting my fridge to 42 degrees on the bottom shelf I have two thermometers and I'm doing a...
A fellow tortoise man found this in Michigan walking around a used car lot, no Craigslist or posters saying someone lost him so I'm assuming it was a dump off, anyway, any clue what kind this guy is?
So I live in south eastern mi and this time of year we get lots and lots of fish flys, I found a few in my torts cage this am maybe 6 or so, I didn't see him eat them and I clean his tank every morning I'm home (4 days a week) my question is, if he does happen to eat some how bad is it? I assume...
What do you tortoise lovers that live in the northern climates do in prep of moving your tort inside? This is my first year letting my tortoise outside is there anything special you do to move it inside or do you just make sure the indoor tank is ready and move him? Ps I have a Russian tortoise...
My forecast where i live is saying the temp is going to drop to 48 at night this week for one day, will my Russian be ok? It's supposed to be sunny and mid 70s the day before and day after. She's on a table off the ground and has a house to go in
We have a 4 year old lab /Shepard mix. We adopted her 6 months ago, anyway she just started going pee and sometimes poo overnight in my sons room. She only does it when I'm gone (I work 24 hour shifts) anyway for a month she didn't do anything we picked her food up at 6 pm but found her not...

So after 3 weeks of slow down and about 2 weeks of dark no food no heat and a constant 60 degrees I woke my girl up. She's kinda thinner then I remember but she's active I soaked her for a good 35 min changing water just to keep warm no poop. Now to feed her my only concern is her beak looks...
I'm thinking it'll help reflect and hold in more heat plus not look too bad what's your thoughts and ideas? My tank is in the basement and while it gets to 64 at night in the winter down where the tank is I'm more worried about the speed in which it will drop
In building my new home my lil girl has a big empty space above her hide the hide it self is flat on top well anyway I was thinking of putting a light there and growing some food in little pots and rotating them in and out where she can eat them

So with the finish of my new "winter" enclosure just around the corner and my little girl snoozing away would it be best to put her in the new home (3x5) I know I know. Best to put her in with or without a hide? I plan on going from no lights and increasing every day by a half hour to an hour...
So as the topic states can I put or line the walls of my tank with the plastic fish tank background? Would it bother the tortoise since it looks like woods and such?
So in building my new table I'm left with having to mount my uvb light to the side wall instead of above the tortoise due to ceiling height would this be a problem? It's or they are 18" tube uvb bulbs
