I am looking to find my Sulcata a new home. Not sure of gender. I got the tortoise at a pet store in May 2012 and they told me the Tort was a hatchling. I don't think it was exactly a hatchling though. The tortoise has slight pyramiding, nothing horrible though. I live in the Cincinnati, OH...
We are out of town and staying with family. She said her lawn was sprayed with fertilizer a week and a half ago. It has rained a lot since then. Is it ok to put the tort out in the lawn for a bit? It is so pretty outside I hate for him to not be able to go out.
Want another opinion/comment :) On the side that the shelter is on, maybe you should put hinges on the top piece so that you can open it and clean in there better... just a thought.
Ok so I gave in. *Sigh* I did see all of the cute plastic cages with the tubes at the pet store but I thought those would stink if they peed in them. I just stuck with the tank we have. I got the aspen bedding because I read that is what is best. The animal shelter had two gerbils that had been...
I have a 38 gallon tank that I am hoping we can use if we decide to get them. My questions are: what kind of bedding is best? What is better a group or a pair? Boys or girls? We DO NOT want to mix genders! When my tort was a baby I had it in the tank I am planning on using. I dumped the...
Yes, the mold is growing on the wall of the cool side of the enclosure. I am going to Home Depot to get a new piece of wood instead of just cleaning the current piece. Will the smell of the vinegar harm the tortoise? If I'm going to be putting vinegar on this wall every few days, I don't want to...
I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about my closed chamber molding. I was going to clean it but it's really bad so I am going to just replace that wall. It is only the "cooler" side of the enclosure that molded. I was wondering if I painted the inside, would that prevent the mold from...
Leopards are very pretty. Although, I saw a picture of a "wild" leopard in Africa and noticed it's shell was not pretty like the ones I've seen on TF. Does the color fade with age?
My baby is from a pet store and was very dry when I got it. For about the first seven months of having it, I kept it dry (until I found TF). I have since been following the hot and humid rule. I noticed prominent growth rings. Since they are so prominent, does that mean the shell is still...
I'm thinking I'll need to redo mine soon as well. As my thread said, the one side is starting to mold because that side has a different kind of wood. Plus, I'm just bored with it. :) I really like your second level idea too. I can't wait to see your pics.
How long are you waiting before feeding to your torts? I have this problem when I buy plants from the store. I don't know if they've had fertilizer and how long to wait to feed.

My concern is the fertilizer in the dirt that will be in the plant, not the spray.
I too am guilty of not providing the proper care for my Sulcata at first. The pet stores are just as clueless as we were. They give wrong and misleading advice about proper care for the poor tortoises. I'm glad you found the forum. If it wasn't for the forum my tort would not be a happy one...
I really like your setup. What is the reason for the ramp? To get closer to the basking light or do Tortoises like to climb? I don't have a ramp in my enclosure. Maybe I should add one?
