I just finished building a bigger and better indoor tortoise table for my redfoot and I would like to put some plants in it. Can anyone tell me what would be some good choices that I can get from from my local garden center. Thanks for any help.
Hey all,
I haven't been on in a long time dealing with finishing school and finding work. And now i have a new problem I had 2 of my males into the vet for a beak and nail trim and while we were there I had the do a stool check just to check. Their weight was down a little, but i thought maybe...
I also use hatchrite and it has worked well for me. My problem in the beginning was too much humidity. I now follow pretty much the same protocol as kanalomele. I keep my incubator set up year round as my russians tend to lay whenever so in order to not have to keep setting the temp i just leave...
Hi Brooke,
I have found with my Russians is that there isn't anything really special that you have to do for them to breed. What you do need is to have them set up properly in a nice big enclosure. I keep mine inside most of the year in a large enclosure and they breed well. I would also...
As far as your females back legs not working right and that being a sign that she is ready to lay. I don't know where you received that info., but I have been breeding Russians for a few years now and i have never noticed my females legs not working "right" before they lay. My females get...
I think my wife and i are a bit insane our kids are 17, 15, 10, 7, and 4. Plus I am in school full time and work almost full time. So insanity would be an understatement.
I also use them for all my shipping and like the others I have no complaints and i will continue to use them. I especially like how Andy will set up home pickups so that I don't have to go across town to drop my tortoises off.
What I found is that they like to burrow down into something rather than go straight into a hide so what I did was angle my hides down into the substrate so they get that feeling of going into a burrow. They really seem to like that much better I very rarely will see them digging into a corner...
You can never tell I had eggs I thought for sure were duds and they ended up hatching and I have also had eggs I thought were fertile and nothing so I agree keep them in the incubator and see what happens
Nimuel,
This is how i incubate my russian eggs. I moisten the vermiculite with water at a 1:1 ratio by weight. So for instance 1/2 pound of vermiculite use 1/2 pound of water. I then make a little divot in the vermiculite for the egg to sit in and that is it. I keep the eggs in the position as i...
Ali,
Do you know if this is her first time laying eggs? Also how deep is the substrate that you have her on? If it isn't deep enough, now this is from personal experience, they will just lay their eggs on top also, often times, if the eggs aren't fertile they will just lay them on top.
