i know that new info is produced yearly, but when I got him 3 years ago, i was under the impression that the more yellow the more pardalis, the more black the more babcocki... i understand the most simple characteristic is the double spot, which he shows SOME of. Is this only really solved by...
Thanks! I bought him as a pardalis pardalis, but after he started growing there was a lot of comments on here that thought there was some babcocki there. Literally didn't grow almost any black till he was over 6 months old. What do you think?
So I posted a couple months ago and tried to get some opinions on the sex of my youngest tortoise. I got (her) in March '10 and she was just barely a month old. So i estimate she will be turning 3 obviously around March '13. The other day I walked past all the torts and the baby was crawling on...
She (?) is about 3yrs old. Pictures are hard to get with her light color. I dont get on very much but I will try to respond with more pix as needed. Thanks for your help.
p.s.
one for fun... Daisy is so beautiful! Let me know if the photos dont work
I hope the vet visit goes well. That is a BEAUTIFUL sulcata and I hope she recovers. We have some great information and advice here on the forum and I think you could benefit greatly from it. Good luck to you.
I dont have a vet because i have never needed one. But I need to take a fecal sample in for my large Leopard and I was wondering if anyone has a SPECIFIC vet they recommend. I know about the Vet list here on the forum but I would like to hear that this vet has seen a Leo or Sulcata in the last 3...
Since your baby will be spending alot of time sleeping, a humid hide is also a very good idea. This way you wont have to worry about spraying him so often. Just keep some moss damp in his little house.
Very cute name. But I'm confused, is he 1.5 lbs or is he 40g? 40g seems about right and his length is perfect for his age. They grow so slowly you could be off by months and still know weight and length. I always made up days if i wanted an actual birthday. This is a VERY vital age though and...
I have thought of this so many times. Im still young but i know no one in my family would do the job if I died at an eary age. I really need to find a rescue who would be ok with me putting them in a will. I would think most people would think of their kids first though.
also, your sully doesn't NEED mazuri. so if he doesn't eat it, its not huge deal. if you wanna trick him into it, you can soak it till its mushy then spread some on a leaf and roll it up like a burrito. it usually stays rolled pretty good. i do this with calcium powder and squash for my older...
I agree with NERD about them not wanting back in there enclosure but i think letting them roam around a room once in awhile is not that bad idea. I do it when its cold outside, but I never let him outa my sight because my tort loves hair and crap off the floor. They will get cold but when he...
I have the solution: if you think its more a blockage then a stress problem i would try a little mineral oil. I have a tort who didnt go for more then two weeks when i first got her. I thought for sure it was a blockage and i squirted a little mineral oil into her mouth and the next day she...
I know people freak out about their torts getting cold but if you let him bask for awhile then take him out for even a 10 minute stroll outside, its not gonna hurt him. I have a three year old sulcata that goes out when its raining and i let him graze for 10 minutes or more until i pick him up...
The really screwed up thing about this is the previous owner works at an emergency vet and got x rays multiple times. I'm really starting to wonder if the tortoises' health was deteriorating very slowly and this is why she, after 7 years, gave her away. I was asking local tort owners who they...
i feed mine raw. i never tried giving them the skin, just the guts. i guess the skin would have alot of nutrients though. i dont know if you would get much out of the little hand sized pumpkins. i always buy the ones that are like kindergarten sized pumpkins. they only weigh a couple pounds.
Laura: i would NEVER self perscribe my tort unless it was a simple topical solution...lol
Poet: Good point. I dont have any arthritis so i guess i was thinking bad to over use the area. I do notice when she gets up in the morning she looks sore. She moves very slowly for the first hour. And i...
