Pancake hatchlings in their new enclosure (lots of pics)

Little update, took the kids outside on this warm fall day to snap some shots, had to bring my fiance out as well to be a wrangler, these two love to MOVE. And a few lil collages of their growth, these pics are 8wks apart exactly.

Pancake hatchlings in their new enclosure (lots of pics)

Did you reduce the photo-period or temp range? Or did they do that all on their own with normal temps and the same amount of light?

    Activity level

I have two young pancakes, both just shy of 12wks old or so. Mine are very active, and they've gotten a lot less shy of me in the few weeks that I've had them. All I've done is made sure I talk near the enclosure, especially when I put down food. So that they aren't afraid of my voice, and they...

Pancake hatchlings in their new enclosure (lots of pics)

I spray the enclosure once per day as per the advice of Tim and Robin :) I also keep 70 or so New Caledonian Geckos in my reptile room all of whom need humidity, and the current ambient humidity in the room averages around 70%. I do also spray their little caves extra, the ones they usually...

Pancake hatchlings in their new enclosure (lots of pics)

These two beauties arrived today. They were hatched by fellow forum members Tim/Robin. These are my first babies in the house since about 2008, and its mesmerizing! The kiddo with the thicker cream pattern is a real go-getter, not shy at all. Her sister is a little more reserved, but it is only...

    Anybody here still remember me?

I'm hoping to get back into the hobby, I've been poking around a bit looking for the right hatchling to acquire and just today posted a wanted thread, so we'll see how that goes :)

Looking for a CB Pancake, Egyptians or Spider Tortoise Hatchling

I raised Greek tortoises a few years ago, and I'm looking to get back into the hobby with something a little more advanced/obscure. I'm willing to consider any hatchlings as long as there is zero pyramiding present as it is my goal to raise a completely smooth CB individual of any of these...

    Update on the tiny trio!

The growth on these kids is absolutely beautiful! Congrats on smooth shells!

    Anybody here still remember me?

I don't have my tortoises anymore, sadly. The trio went to friends of mine with the capabilities to give them outdoor enclosures for the summer months (as a renter, and someone who moved a lot, it was one aspect of their care I was never able to attain). I just felt like they needed more room...

    Anybody here still remember me?

I belonged to this site years ago, and was quite an active member at the time. I had a trio of three Greek tortoises, two of them I purchased from EgyptianDan; named Nigel, Anouk and Novalee? I've been going through old PM links to try and find the friends I knew from those years back, but its...

JUST WHEN I THOT IT WAS OVER???

I'm excited to see new pics Terry! The parents are gorgeous, but not lacking in color at all ;) Maybe they both carry a recessive gene for blackcherries :D Is this the first dark baby from them? Or, that female?

JUST WHEN I THOT IT WAS OVER???

More pics ;) What a wonderful surprise you had there Terry---its a very beautiful tortoise, definitely a unique cherry! Looks much blacker than the previous dark kids--

    Pancake info

PM Tim and Robin ;) They gave me some great info.

    Whoa...

Yeah they mimic the mating behavior and yes, a 217g tortoise is not sexually mature. I would weigh them, and measure tomorrow, and see what kind of a gap you have between them, and if it seems large enough, I would even consider separating them, as living together will do harm to the smaller one.
  16. Meg90

    Whoa...

They look small to actually be breeding---whats the SCL and gram weight of both? You could very well still have two girls, and one is just stating her dominance. If that's the case, I would add a bunch of plants/visual barriers to the enclosure so the smaller tort can get away from her when she...

    What do I have?

Do you have more pics of the last one? Also, if you hold them up, you get better plastron pics, with a better angle, like this, these are my girls: Female Female

    What do I have?

Based on pics alone, I'd say Female, Female, Male. But I'd like to know SCL and gram weight before I cast my vote for sure ;) They look Antakyan to me, or even Antakyan x Golden crosses. I brought up pics of my Antakyan Cross girl's parents to compare and they all look very similar to her dam...

    TRADE -vs- SELL/PURCHASE

Trading usually makes me feel kinda dirty---it feels to me like going from treating the animal as a living thing, to something more kin to a Pokemon card. In all my years of collecting geckos, snakes, torts etc I have only done one trade, to a woman that I knew, not just a random online. I...

    DAY 7, 2.5"

Agreed! I can't believe they hatch so TINY when they are such large animals fully grown--I think I was picturing them 4" out of the egg haha. Since Greeks are like, 1.5-2" SCL and only grow to be 8-10 inches as adults. Beautiful tortoises---I look at all your gorgeous pictures and think of how...
