    help with ichy skin

Very cute chihuahuas you got there. Poor thing she's so itchy. She does look like she has got redness around the eyes, muzzle & maybe in the ears (not clear in pic). It is good to do a diet trial first before going for allergy testing. However if you are going to do a diet trial, you need to...

    Money Plant

Oh yes, I've thrown out that plant. It acutally belongs to my sis. She doesn't take care of it anyway. That was how the creepers grew until they were on the ground.

    Tortoise shell conditioners

That I can't comment because I'm in the tropics where humidity is always 80% or more. Maybe that is why even applying olive oil on their doesn't even cause them to dry out. However I can't see why applying oil would cause more drying. I thought applying water & have that evaporate would lead...

    Money Plant

Hi Purpod, Thanks for the compliment & well wishes. Today I saw him eating some vegies as well. That is a good sign. However I won't be completely happy until I see him eating like he used to before. Hopefully his appetite would pick up soon. Cheers. Simon

can I take my Russian tortoise to overseas?

I don't think it's possible to import a Russian tort to Hong Kong. Even if it is possible, there would be special import permits to be obtained and if there is quarantine, the tort would be very stressed out in quarantine. You are better off finding a family member to adopt him for a period you...

    Tortoise shell conditioners

I do agree that tortoises shell should probably be left as natural as possible. However just to be the devils advocate here. It is true that no one rubs wax on their shells in the wild, however in their natural habitat, the climate may be more humid than where they are now kept in captivity. I'm...

    Money Plant

Today I've had the opportunity to monitor him at home. He ate almost the whole hibiscus flower. Don't really know if he ate any grass. I'll have to watch the amount of poo he passes to have a rough idea how much he is consuming. He still doesn't eat the vegies that I leave out for them.

    Money Plant

It has been a week sinced I last updated. He is eating some grass, although I never see him do, but he is pooing, so he must be eating something. Poo is in smaller quantities compared to the other torts. I still soak him twice daily & he drinks. He'll occassionally eat some hibiscus flower. He...

    Money Plant

Thanks for all that research. Really appreciate it. My readings point me in the same direction. With oxalates toxicity, there is really nothing much you can do except symptomatic treatment & supportive therapy. Oxalates toxicity usually happen over a period of oxalate comsumption &...

    Money Plant

I think it's the Pothos, Epipremnum aureum. It's common in my side of the world, South East Asia. Damn, should have thrown it away. The plant is higher up on a ledge, but the creeper vines grew & hung down on the grass. Any idea what it might cause & if the torts will get better in time? He...

    Sulcata Essentials

Congrats on your new tort. You'll need UVB instead of UVA. Most reptile stores should sell reptile lights which is UVB. Well at least in my side of the world that's where we can find UVB lights. However there is nothing like a hours of unfiltered sunlight a day. Give him a variety of greens...

    Money Plant

Would like to check. Are money plants (as in the creeper) toxic to torts? I've got a tort that ate some money plant leaves & now has decreased appetite for the last 1-2 weeks.

    She isnt interested

Actually chewing on cuttlefish bone helps to file down their beaks not sharpen them. I do agree with Yvonne, the cuttlefish bones need to be left out in the sun & weather to dry up. When they are dry & powdery to touch, the fishy smell is usually less strong & the torts are more likely to chew...

    Hello Everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome & replies. The radiateds are currently living out of a fibreglass box. They get let out in the backyard every morning & put back in their box at night. I'm in the process of building them a new enclosure in one corner of my backyard. Will update with more pics when...

    Tortoise swimming?

You could put them in a deep bowl of water for a few minutes under supervision. Personally I wouldn't try it with the baby tortoises. I've learnt it the hard way. When I was a kid & thought star torts were aquatic & put one in a fish tank. Unfortunately the poor tort drown.

    Tortoise swimming?

Sure they can swim. In the wild they do swim from time to time. However unlike aquatic turtles, they need to find land once they are tired or they'll drown.

    Incoming Radiated!

    How much is much?

I guess my question is rather open ended & stupid. Some of my torts would eat themselves silly when fed their favourite hibiscus flowers, while others would eat a little & walk away. Some seem to graze a little throughout the day on lawn grass. I'm just afraid that the ones with the big appetite...
