I use flood lights as basking lights for my monitors. We have 100w red ones for night to keep the heat up and 150w white to get the basking temp up to 140* I haven't seen any ill effects of this over the expensive "basking" bulbs. (As long as you aren't looking for a UVB substitute)
Superman came to us already named. We didn't find out she was for sure a female until just a couple months ago. Doesn't seem right to change her name now.
We have been working really hard on getting our Nile Monitor into a bigger home and with my boyfriend working every other weekend it's been a time struggle but we're finally finished!! Here are some pics of the build and of her enjoying her new space.

How do you feel about the pythons being hunted in the Everglades?
I only ask because as a snake lover myself, my first reaction is similar to what i'm hearing for these burros, but I also see it as a necessity. Just like we have hunting season for the Whitetail deer here in MO, it's...
No, I'm not an Ivory breeder. You should be able to see in my signature that I only have a single normal sulcata. I do however have several ball pythons that I have begun breeding.
I never once disagreed with you on the fact that that albino torts can be in the sun or retain their eyesight. I...
I'm sorry, I am calm.
I was just trying to clear up why the ad would post this as a stronger line.
I didn't realize that healthy debating wasn't allowed in the forums unless under a specific thread.
Well I was confused because you never once mentioned the word SUN in the part where you were speaking to me. I just guess with what I already know about genetics I would never assume that an albino couldn't survive in the sun. I don't see how putting a perfectly healthy (albeit different...
If you are attempting to heat their enclosure, using a UTH (Under Tank Heater), heat tape, CHE (Ceramic heat emmiter) or RHP (Radiant heat panel) would be much more effective.
What extreme conditions are we talking about though? I mean how "extreme" is a backyard, covered shelter? Albinos don't survive in the wild because they are easily spotted... in captivity though, we protect them as if they were our own children thus lessening the likelyhood of a predator...
Got it. My question is what makes this any different than an albino that is produced from a het to het? The genetic makeup is still the same, it doesn't make a "stronger breed".
