I live on Long Island so from mid fall to early spring my tortoise will have to be indoors. Summertime on Long Island is perfect for a red foot as we get high humidity.

What if you mist your tortoise everyday, would that provide enough humidity?

If you look at his inside shoulder he has the lone red scale. The rest of the red scales are in the front. That's why I'm not sure if he's a northern.

Ok it didn't really matter to me either way. They are both nice just a little different.

The reptile store I got him from had several of them. He was one of two that had red on the top of the head. The others were more yellow. I picked him out because he was the most active and I liked his personality.

What other characteristics do they have? Do they keep any of the red on the head? How about size?

What are the characteristics of a northern red foot compared to the other subtypes

How high do the sides have to be? I was thinking of making the box out of pine planks and lining it with vinyl flooring.
