My little Florida box turtle is looking like she is slowing down. But my room temperature does not ever drop below 70f - too many heat lamps for that to happen. How do I let her "sleep" if I can't give her below that? I do have covered balcony I could use but night temps drop to about 40f and will only get colder as winter comes.

I keep tortoises that do not hibernate so I I completely forgot about this last year and she did it anyways...Dug into corner of tank and did not move unless I moved her.

Any thoughts

thanks in advance,

Harpy

Hi Billie:

If your turtle is intent on brumating, then it is sometimes very hard to discourage them from it. However, in a room where the temperature doesn't drop below 70F, it might be pretty dangerous to your turtle's life to allow him to go all winter without eating and drinking. I would try to keep her awake and active. Offer her a nice juicy worm every day. Keep bringing her out of the substrate and place her either in the waterer or on front of the food. Keep her lights on for 14 hours every day.
