Hibernation

My tortoise has decided to hibernate in the garden! She is in her run but has buried herself deep in the soil I'm not sure whether I can leave her there over the winter ( last year she went in the shed ). Do you think she will be ok or should I try and get her out ? Any advice is welcome Thanks.

Here in the Central Valley of California our winters are too wet to allow tortoises to hibernate in the ground. So, in my opinion, unless you live in a geographical area very similar to your tortoise's home range, I wouldn't allow him to hibernate outdoors.

What kind of tortoise is it?
