Hello,

Questin for you all. My 2 sulcatas are slowing way down on eating. They are 1 year old and housed inside. They get a variety of foods including grass (they dont always eat the grass). It's starting to get cold outside mid 60's day and 30's at night. are they just slowing down because of the winter?

I have not heard of sulcatas slowing down for seasons....mine has not. Have your temps changed inside? Uv rays decreased?

Personally I think all tortoises tend to lose appetite as temperature drops. My beloved Greek tort has not been eating like it did in hot Summer days.

You say housed inside. Do they get out for sun? Or always inside.
If always inside temps for them have not changed. If your house is decreasing in humidity it's due to heating it. This would be noticed by them. Torts regulate their metabolism by subtle changes in environment we might barely notice

If you take them out to get sun they would notice the changes in temps and humidity and could trigger a slowdown.

What are your four temps? Warm side, cool side, basking area and over night low?

Has ambient temp in your house dropped since the weather has begun cooling?

They should not be slowing down and you need to work to find and correct the problem. Also, pairs are not a good idea and almost always lead to problems. Is one much bigger then the other? You should get a third or separate them.
