Sorry, couldn't find any info even in the FDA toxic weed list. They don't look familiar to me.

*sigh* We may have an abundance of awesome prickly pear, but all our other plants/weeds suck!!
But you have prickly pear!!! :D I found this cactus plant at our grocer's. I felt so bad for it that I had to buy it. Came to realise later that it's a prickly pear. A very sad looking prickly pear! ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1409627327.985724.jpg

Glad you rescued it, so you could feed it to your tortoises... Oh the irony.. LOL!! Unfortunately, tortoises cannot live on opuntia alone. :)

True. I actually bought it for myself. Lol! I might eat it or wait from fruit.
I'm trying to feed my torts what they'd eat in the wild. Sedums are more suitable for them.

What species do you have?

Red foot and three-toed box turtle. My red foot eats anything I put in front of him, I just wish I could give him a better variety, including some weeds. I am trying to grow some in a container garden, we shall see.

You could try a simple garden box. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1409660657.843741.jpg
And you could tent it during the cooler months. How cold does it get there?

In winter, the days are around 55-60 but the nights, usually border on freezing, 25-30.
You'd definitely need a greenhouse, then. Do you get frost in the winter?

I'm going to get plastic tunnels for my tort corral. I might get a few more weeks of fresh greens for them.

Yes, we will get frost when there is enough moisture in the air. Last year we have a ridiculously mild winter, but the year before we had several hard freezes and it snowed half a dozen times. I have an Arizona room, it gets pretty cold in there, too, because there is no insulation and the walls are windows, but I am thinking I may set up a greenhouse in there, and run a small space heater if/when it gets too cold.

I'd love a room like that! I'd live in it all winter. LOL! But our average temp in Jan-Feb is -40°C/F, so that would cost me a fortune to heat up.
