Looks like a very colorful Gulf Coast box turtle. Where are you located?

Red eyes can sometimes be a trait of males of certain species. I'm unsure if that applies to this species or not though, as I don't keep them.

I would say, very old and exceptionally beautiful GC box turtle. I was never into GC boxies, until I got one, and now I'm noticing how very different looking each one can be.

Rather than a gulf coast, could it possibly be a Nelsoni nelsoni?

Yes, I just googled it. Such a beautiful little boxie. I hope it makes lots of offspring!

Good looking male. Not sure if it's full GC but it's nice regardless. We get GC and 3toed crosses in Louisiana.

Looks like a gulf coast and 3 toed cross to me. I don't think I have ever seen a GC with spots like that, but lots of box turtles have them, I keep one in fact...so...a cross maybe?

It's a female 3toed. My buddy Tony sent me those pictures right after you moved it off the road! Lol you sent them to him asking him what it was. It's about as unique and beautiful of a female 3toed as the come. You were lucky to witness such a beauty .

But it's undoubtedly a female 3toed
