An Hour With Monstro (Photo Heavy)

Dean is the master at open mouth shots, but I'm betting his wife is standing behind the camera with a strawberry. I'm practicing real hard to get good at it too...The inside of Bob's mouth is very pale compared to Monstro's, look how pink he is...or is that strawberry???:) Well Dean, his face is very unusual, but the carapace is beautiful. Nice job...lots of great growth lines. He's going to be a big one, good name for him...

Dean, do you wave treats behind the camera to get the open mouth shots, like they do with the rattles for babies? It is uncanny how many amazing mouth/tongue photos you get.
I have a secret...but it's boring...

Here's today's moments with Monstro as he demolished a giant meatball...bigger than a softball! Mazuri, ground hay, topped with powdered cuttlebone!

He's got a little SCARFACE thing going here :p

Well, I'll be! The ITs left their own thread to make a cameo here!

Don't believe me? They emerged from their hides once they smelled the Mazuri! And, of course, once Monstro turned his back!

Dean, do those small babies live with that big tortoise? Looks like Bob has competition in the best mush face division...o_O

No! I let 'em roam the yard until he comes out of his house. They happened to take to an overgrown area today, and I just let 'em be...until he came out. Two of the three approached his food pile...took a nibble or two....then I put them back in their chamber!

Looks like he's enjoying an apple fritter with icing. LOL!

I ask because Bob just met briefly a much smaller tortoise and he didn't even take a sniff, he just took a bite...the jerk

Yea...I would never put these little ones in that kind of risk...especially after what happened to Snowflake 4 years ago!

How is Snowflake BTW? I just thought you figured out a new way to do things. I KNOW you would never put a tortoise big or small in harms way...

Snowflake has been in San Diego for the past year or so! I haven't had any updates in quite awhile...but she seemed to make the adjustment well!

By the time I got my camera, Monstro had annihilated the escarole and radicchio...and most of the endive! Here's a few shots of him enjoying the rest of his 'breakfast'...then a nice shot of him rising up!
