In the past I have seen Yvonne ( I believe ) and others talk about using black lights for heat.
Someone said they went to the 99 cent store at Halloween and stocked up.
I just got one to see if they really got hot. Good grief! They do!
Is this the light you were talking about. Just want to make sure I have something safe to experiement with.

Good question! I will have to check that. I just plugged it in and was surprised at the heat that was put out.
Thanks!

Thermostats ate always a good idea.
I think ceramic heat emitters are the best.

Thank you Kathy, it is more for the Winter than now of course. Are the thermostats hard to set up - I don't do complicated electrics!

They are actually quite easy. I don't do complicated electronics either. They scare me! :)

nah you just plug the thermostat into the outlet then plug your heating fixtures into the thermostat and set what temp you want it

Hmm, good idea. I don;t like CHEs, very expensive and all mine have burned out way too fast.,

If your CHE's are burning out, you are doing something wrong. I have 20 of them and short of me dropping them and breaking them, not a one has ever "burned out" or ceased to function. I have one that has been in nearly continuous use since I got my first sulcata in 1991. It is still running today.

For those who choose to use "black" lights, which I don't recommend, make sure you keep extras on hand. They have a tendency to burn out at the most inopportune times.

I love CHE and have never had a problem. I was definitely curious about the use if black lights but fortunately don't have a need.
It looks like it could be an option for those who might need it.
Interesting.

I have a proper wattage (100w) ceramic fixture, and if I mist the table, I also take it out and wait before putting it back in... should I be doing something different??

as long as your not misting the light, i dont see a need to remove the bulb, i mist my table multi times a day, some times the light fixtures gets hit with a few drops and ive never had a problem , lol obv dont wet the fixture though, dont know if that would go so well!

I've never seen a ceramic fixture that is only rated to 100 watts. The lowest I've seen is 250. This might be your problem. Too small of a fixture for such a hot burning bulb.

I agree. I have never removed a CHE for misting. Just don't directly and repeatedly spray water right at the actual bulb and you should not have a problem.

Oh, okay. I found a great deal on a CHE+fixture combo online, and I never second guessed the CHE was more than 100w, like the lamp!I guess that's my problem... where do I buy a 250w fixture lamp??

I buy my fixtures from Home Depot. They have a ceramic base, an 11" dome, and a heavy duty cord for about $12. I can't remember what wattage the are rated for, but its at least 250 if not 600.
