I got home from work yesterday to find that my big girl dropped her very first eggs (11 of them). Unfortunately they were scattered all throughout the enclosure. What intrigues me is that she spent every bit of 6 weeks in late winter obsessively scraping a mound in the indoor winter enclosure. She never once attempted to outside. These Mee's continue to fascinate me, almost on a daily basis, even after being with them for all these years. Never seen or worked with anything like them.

Seems to be the norm - first time egg layers just pooping out the eggs whenever, wherever. Next year she'll make a nice nest and use it. I like them too. They're different, I'll give you that.

Oh, I get that. I just found it odd that she had 6 weeks of practice building them!

Yes! That's so exciting. The Manouria are indeed an amazing species and I am thrilled to be working with them as well.

There is some great info on Vics Facebook Page. Thanks for pointing that @Will ! I was wondering the something wether the lack of rain in my part of Florida played a part in this years non-nest building and laying. Last year, I found smashed eggs. the last week of May. The corresponds with some of the behavior Vic saw during the same time period. Or lack of behavior.

Any updates on the eggs? Did you try to incubate them?
No. She dropped them during the day while I was at work and they were no good by the time I got home. She dropped 9 more about a week after that initial time, but again, they were no good. They were scattered all over the enclosure like the previous week. Next year she'll know what she's doing, and you better believe I'll be ready as well!

A camera monitor system and an already set up incubator. It's worth it.

Yeah, I have the incubator. But unfortunately the camera for their outdoor enclosure is just a dream. I'm terribly stupid when it comes to the IT world and electronics. Don't think I'd ever be able to figure it out. One of these days I'll get out of the 1980's!!

LOL I second Rtjen, you are totally not stupid, I also can't load pictures either. I did it a while back, now I can't remember how to do it ...o_O

I think you are amazing to have your Mee lay eggs! That means you have been taking good care of her and her clan. You reside in Ohio which means you are a dedicated Mee owner, keeping these tropical torts warm and fed in Ohio winter weather is no easy task!

By the way, how old is she? I want to know when I can expect my 5 yo Mep girls come of age.

Best wishes for next year laying season Harris!:tort::tort::tort::tort::tort::tort:

Thank you! She is 10 1/2 years old. But she is a massive freak of nature! There's a thread somewhere in this section with a photo of her from last winter....

I'm sure there's plenty of tech-savvy people here who would be more than happy to help you with a project like that. I too am clueless with electronics and embarrassingly so.
