Beautiful little ones as they all are. However if these are supposed to be cherryheads and you paid extra for that you were robbed. I've seen regular Red foots that have much better color and won't have the ugly marbled shells as adults.

I have seen all of the individuals of the breeding colony, and they are indeed cherry heads aka Brazilians.

As far as the coloration goes I cannot attest to whether or not these are high or low color quality, as I have only seen these.

As to the marbling, some seek out marbling, where you call it "ugly".

All I can say is that these did come from the red "cherry head" Brazilian colony shown in Kenan's video linked before, and I will give them the husbandry to realize their full potential.

On a more "picante" note, I see your specific proclivity for color quality trolling in other posts as well. What an interesting hobby.

Weighing in here, I will be keeping weekly tabs on these 5 to help others and myself get an idea of captive CH growth rates/spurts over time.

They are too cute.

Love that you got them from Kenan. My 3(almost 4 year old) is obsessed with his videos. We don't yet have a tort but my son literally goes out every day and works on his "tortoise enclosure" and mimics everything Kenan does on his videos. He has rocks he tells me are sulcata and leopard tortoises. It's amazing. Love Kenan.

(Any chance any of your babies are from Darth Maul?)

Thanks!

Not sure about Darth Maul or not. He showed me all of the individuals in his group that were potentially the mothers, but he collects after the fact and cannot be certain as to who laid them.

I know he had her set up solo breeding with a hypomelanistic Redfoot in 2013-14 but I'm not sure if he's specifically breeding her outside of the main group now.

I got our sulcata for my now almost 4 year old 2 years back, but she is just barely into them as if now.

Neat!

My oldest is a little random ball of odd interests and activity. It's lovely. My 2 year old is too busy to care too much(though he really loves watching aquatic creatures) and of course the 7 month old is too busy crawling around and chewing his own toes :p

Your house sounds too much like mine.
I have a 6 month old that is a chunker, she's just sitting up and rolling around as of yet.

With 240 gallon planted aquarium, crested gecko breeding colony, tarantulas, 5 cherry head and one sulcata tortoise and two dogs our little gals will be regular naturalists just like dad by the time they hit 1st grade!

Found this little guy trying to stay in the Redfoot hotel, and I think he could do some damage, so he had to go!

How can you tell the difference between a baby cheery head and a baby red head? I got one from Craigslist and they claim it's a cherry head

Most consider these names to be interchangeable. To be sure from an unknown source you need to see the parents.

If the parents have red coloration on head/neck, more rounded nose, darker plastron, red elbow horn/scale, potential marbling no wasping in male etc.

All of the signs are less in hatchlings.

So pretty much at this point I'll just have to wait until it matures more to see if it stay true

There is no "true". Just a regional variation of one species, not even subspecies.

Just look for red extended scale at the elbow and love your tort.

If you cannot trust the source, don't pay cherryhead prices.

Two month weigh in

Still a little concerned with the slow down, but they all eat every day, maybe they are just young still.

Also will try some different greens this week.

Update time!

Unfortunately, while i was on vacation a month ago, my smallest runt was attacked by something and after much time at the vet, specialized housing and care, unfortunately he passed. Now i am down to 4. These seem to have periods where they just nibble a litte each day, then BOOM they will grow. They are around 5 months at this point, and looking at old weights, seem to not be growing much at all other than the one.

They have all been treated for parasites, but i guess we shall see how it goes. It just appears that these just grow in spurts.
