So this yr we are building an indoor and outdoor enclosure for our homeana hingebacks. First I had to clear the area and build some decking platforms (the decking part of the deal is a bribe so I can have another dedicated Tortoise area)
Got decking platforms down and divided an area off for the tortoises. It's not a huge area, around 300sqft. Should be good enough for the hinges. The plan is to have an indoor area of 80sqft, this will be a plastic shed fully insulated that they can come and go from at will.
A few pics for now and I'll post more as we go.
My only worry is that the decking will want treating every yr. I'll have to do this when winter is coming when I know they will be indoors for a few months.
Decking area not finished yet.
I'll be using those rocks to make a rockery around the decking going up to the pond and also put a rope barrier around decking.
I wanted to have them go under the decking(like a bridge) into pond area too but I got out voted as usual. Maybe I'll extend to the pond area next yr.
Nearly forgot, whilst clearing everything away we found well over 100 baby newts hidden in the ground and under rocks.
