They need to have food available to them anytime they're awake. They're grazers and so I put out greens in the morning for mine and if he goes through them all before bed time, I put out just a little bit more just in case. If he's not hungry, he won't eat and so I know not to put that much out the next day.
How are your baby torts ? What about the cold they have ?
It is very easy to help your sick torts: Make sure that the temperature in your whole enclosure is 95 F day and night ! You need a digital thermometer to control the temp.
The CHE works at night when the lights are out. Torts must sleep in darkness.
When you are really sure that the temps are always high you increase the humidity to 85-90 %.
For this you have to cover your enclosure.
With this simple method you can help sick tortoises with a cold to heal themselfs.
Don`t try any medicine when you are not sure that it is compatible for torts.
Sometimes torts change their old skin to new skin. Have an eye on it and if the new skin looks normal it should be o.k.
Do you have an UVB bulb / light for your torts ? That is very important for a strong shell and mayby for the skin too.
Keep them warm night and day. They are babies of a tropical species. They need it warm.
Urates in powder form is not good. Do you soak your torts every day for 20 - 30 minutes in warm water ?
When you are sure that your warmth is high night and day you can sprinkle the soil of the enclosure of your torts with water as often as needed. If the enclosure is open you must have to close the top that the humidity and warmth stays inside.
If you don`t find a way to increase the humidity, your torts can get sick of bladder stones and a pyramided shell.
