20170324_125420.jpg 20170324_125409.jpg Hey y'all, a question about hibiscus - first off, is this hibiscus? I'm not great with plants .

If yes, I have read that redfoots can eat it. Do I literally pull off the entire flower and leaves and feed it to them? Is it nutritious, or like more of a treat food? I have lived here 2 months and in that time there has been no pesticide or herbicides used. The landlord THINKS there haven't been any used in a year. Is it safe for my babies?

Thanks y'all- I would be so lost without this forum!!!

Yes! Definitely Hibiscus! You can serve flowers and leaves to your tortie if you are sure that the bush has not been treated with systemic chemicals. If it's not commercial landscape and the owner stating "it has not been treated" than it should be safe, just give it nice rinse with running water and serve.

I love my Hibiscus and use it as part of my feeding regime this time of year. (Most of the year)
Sometimes I'll rip a whole branch off and toss it in the pen. My tortoises even eat the bark and the plants grow back within a few weeks.

My largest and oldest Hibiscus is now intertwined with my grape vine and mostly covered. But it is every bit of 9-10 feet tall.
Regular pruning will keep them small and "BUSH" like. Let them grow and they get very large with thick trunks and branches.
