I've been seeing more and more of them lately, still think they look awesome but the name Cherryhead does seem a bit misleading? Thoughts on this anyone?
I was wondering if it is a regional kind of coloration. I have both kinds and I know the reds are usually from Brazil.I'm lost on the orange headed ones though.
Your assessment of the name cherryhead was correct. It is misleading.
These Brazilian tortoises do come in colors other than red. I too like the orange ones.
It is also possible, if not likely that some of the various 'farms' in South America that are producing these animals have breeders from differing localities mixed into their groups. This would contribute to pet keepers in the US (and elsewhere) seeing imported tortoise with a mixture of traits.
I'm a big fan of the orange colored "cherryheads" - so much that I intentionally purchased some orange hatchlings years ago. I've seen a handful of yellowsthat are quite striking too and if my four wind up being females, I'm planning a serious hunt for a yellow cherryhead male.
